Plumb Creative

Business, Business, Business…

This summer's obsessions looks a little different than some of my other posts about what I’m loving lately, but there’s a simple reason for that: I’ve been incredibly busy working on my business! While normally I share the latest movies or music playing in my house, this summer (and the limited travel due to COVID-19) has me focusing on the things to keep me growing since relaunching Plumb Creative full time about a year ago. But that’s not a bad thing! I’ve still made time for some great movies (and binge-watching episodes of Key & Peele), and have definitely expanded my musical horizons, particularly because for the month of July…

I got an intern

My nephew Slater is a super-talented filmmaker and musician. While he was visiting over Memorial Day, I had the idea to offer him a summer internship with me so I could teach him graphic design and he could help me out with some video work. We worked on branding design for his psychedelic rock band Jam ’n’ Slate (which recently made some waves with their album Is There Room in the Story For Us? ) as well as a new website (still in progress) and cover art for their upcoming album, Phantom Summer. Be sure to give them a listen and follow them on social media. And since Slater is a college film student, we also watched a ton of movies, like Inception on the 10th anniversary of its release.

I made some things

One video project Slater helped out with was capturing my dear friend and client Kevin Teagle’s feedback on a brand coaching program I’ve been working hard to launch this summer. I’ve created an awesome free email series as an introduction to my 1-on-1 coaching program designed to help people gain confidence, clarity, and direction in their brand by discovering the foundational pieces that make them unique. Knowing your story is imperative for every part of your life, whether you are wanting to define your professional or personal brand, and I’m excited to launch this foundational piece of brand consulting, development, and design as my newest core service. I hope you’ll check out the free email course for some fresh insight and inspiration into your brand (as well as some of my latest improvements to the website while you’re here)!

Kevin talks about his experience with Plumb Creative's Brand Discovery Coaching: the hesitations, the surprises, the benefits, and unexpected joys.

And speaking of inspiration, I’ve also been working hard on adding a Shoppe to my site as well, which includes a collection of inspirational goodies and resources that I recommend and refer to throughout the email course: the Kerouac Kit. My goal is to update this Trello board regularly with books, apps, influencers, tools, fun social follows, promotions & giveaways and more, sharing them regularly with you in my monthly newsletters as well (which has also gotten a bit of a facelift, as you’ll soon see)…

I’m (co)writing a book

Another piece of business receiving some adjustments and improvements is my memoir service, Story/Book Co. While book publishing isn’t exactly in the same neighborhood as brand consulting, storytelling is at the heart of everything Plumb Creative does. So I’m adding my memoir and other book editing and publishing services as Plumb Creative Story/Book. The latest Story/Book project has got me scrambling to finish by the end of August, a story very personal to me: one small part of my mother’s memoir, detailing her Girl Scout trip in the summer of 1960, when she first arrived in the United States. Want to stay in the loop (and be the first to see Slater’s video trailer for the launch)? Get notified about updates and purchasing her book when it’s released!

I’d love your feedback on the latest Plumb Creative branding, the Discover Your Story email course, or even thoughts and suggestions on the Kerouac Kit. And of course, if you’d like to talk more with me about how I could help you with your brand story, feel free to get in touch with me!
