My Century in Motion
I am excited to announce Plumb Creative’s first Stories publication: My Century In Motion, a memoir of Southern Oregon resident Dan Bulkley, who turns 100 years old on May 4, 2017.
Dan was born and raised in Thailand to a missionary doctor father and teacher mother. Dan came to California his senior year of high school and went on to graduate from Pomona College and Claremont Graduate School with degrees in Physical Health Education.
After serving in the Navy during World War II as a member of the OSS, or Office of Strategic Services (now known as the CIA), Dan moved to Southern Oregon where he was a PE instructor at Southern Oregon University. He started the SOU track and cross country programs, as well as a ski program which directly led to the development of Mt. Ashland ski area.
After teaching and coaching at SOU for 30 years while serving on the Mt. Ashland ski patrol, Dan became a world record-setting athlete at the age of 70, competing in the Senior Olympics, Masters Track & Field, Cross-Country Skiing, Tennis, and Badminton competitions all over the world for over 25 years.
Dan’s memoir is set to release for his centennial birthday. His book covers the main experiences of his life, and includes photographs and contributions from his extended family.
