Why I Am

welcome to the Plumb Creative blog… where do i start? what is there to say about me?

perhaps my words and images will speak for themselves. if not, here's a little extra.

i'm in love with the human condition. we are the only creatures that thrive or die from emotion. my life has been spent sorting out experiences of love and beauty. i have had amazing journeys and stories to tell, and hope to continue the trend. there are struggles and rewards, each of which lead me to a deeper understanding of life and myself. i am always searching.

all of this would be meaningless, though, without my family. i'm the afterthought of 5 kids, and i grew up spoiled rotten. spending my early years on the foggy central coast of California, i ended up in southern Oregon around the age of 10. and while i've had my share of other horizons, i've settled back here with my beautifully brown-eyed six year old son Soren, my new husband Nick and 10 year old stepson Quentin. oh, and our Golden Retriever pup Remy. it's an amazing joy to be surrounded by people who love you.

i love words. there are so many, and like cooking, there are countless ways to combine them to create a masterpiece. i've been writing since elementary school, where i started with a rhyme of "cold" and "old" and proceeded filling notebooks with poetry.

at age 19, i was granted a small publication of poetry entitled "a deep dark black ray of sunshine," and have since progressed to flash fiction and memoir. maybe one day i'll publish something else, until then, i'll use the convenience of the blog.

having a background in film photography and traditional development, i fought the transition to digital cameras until my son was born in 2003. it wasn't long before i was studying digital graphic design, combining my passion for writing and love of imagery. but i've kept my binders of negatives and contact sheets and hope one day i have my own darkroom.

there are pictures of me at 6 months old in my mother's homeland of Denmark. i'm fortunate enough to belong to a well-traveled family, and absolutely love to see the variety of this world. i've traveled to Denmark about 12 times in my life, and have also had the opportunity to ride the rails throughout Europe. after i graduated high school, i spent three weeks with two pals on a train, going from Amsterdam to Rome and many cities in between. i studied some poetry in London for a few months, and i also did a stint in the Air Force, allowing me to be stationed in Germany, where i was also able to travel in France, Scotland, Belgium... Europe is a grand place.

this is my journey told through words, photographs, music, film, travel, and family. i hope you enjoy the view.
