The Best Books for Your Best Life

In the past few months, I’ve been absorbing a lot of non-fiction of the “self-help” variety. I’m not sure why there’s such a stigma on self-help books; honestly, if you aren’t learning everything you can about how to get what you want for yourself, then you aren’t living your best life. But I’m also of the disposition that pride doesn’t play into my self-improvement.

Last fall, I began sessions with a life coach and started reading a lot of books about mindset and intention (The Law of Attraction for example, which I also recommend). And the more I read, the more books would pop up on my "similar to what you're reading" list. A few I enjoyed, a few gave me a little bit of wisdom, but these few totally rocked my world and changed everything:

Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action

I read Simon Sinek’s book after watching his famed Ted Talk and probably like everyone else who watched it (and read it), re-examined basically everything about my life’s purpose. Why do I recommend this book? No matter what you do for a living, if you're a self-starter or perfectly happy to be part of a larger company, or even a teenager flipping burgers, Start With Why really helps you understand how to tap into the way your brain scientifically works in order to better understand yourself and what motivates you-- in all areas of your life.

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

Everyone read this book. Seriously. With a very real, relatable, humorous tone that doesn't feel at all like a "self-help" book, author Jen Sincero lays it all out on living your best life. Some of the most true, insightful, and unique advice I've ever read for everything from dealing with overwhelm to fixing your finances. Did I mention it's hilarious AF? Everyone read this book.

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less

The art (and power) of saying no… This book puts into perspective how much we really don’t need, and how a shift in thought allows for far more satisfaction with less, which leads to greater productivity. And not just for work— for every aspect of choosing how to spend your precious minutes of the day. If you're the type of person who is constantly responding, "I've been so busy!" when someone asks how you are, this book is for you. And even if you feel like you've got a good handle on how you spend your time, Essentialism will totally shift your thinking even more on how you choose, well, anything.

Dailygreatness Journal*: A Practical Guide For Consciously Creating Your Days

I’ve been using this book for nearly a year. Haven’t missed a day. It may seem a little much to journal both morning and night, but I tell you what: I go to sleep so much easier now. It’s a fantastic way to bookmark your day, and on July 1, I’m starting a new one all over again. Dailygreatness offers different journals for all areas of your life (I've mentioned the Dailygreatness 12-Week Rocking Fit journal in a previous Obsessions post as well) but I like this one because it's general and you can get specific on those really Essential things (see what I did there?).

Start the second half of 2018 with some fresh inspiration! These are just a few of the books I recommend that have made a huge difference in my life (see my previous Obsessions about The War of Art and The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up). And with a stack of books on my to-read shelf, I'm sure they won't be the last! If you have any books that have changed your life, I'd love to know and add them too!

*I totally recommend these books, regardless of where you buy them. If you use my referral links, I do get a tiny bit of money. Thanks for that!
